Help Pushing X5 in Neutral

I need help. I have a 2006 3.0 auto that does not start. I need to push it into my garage. I place it in neutral, and release the parking brake, left key in ignition but I can't seem to move it even an inch. Am I missing a step? I looked in the owners manual for towing steps and seems like I covered everything. thanks everything.

I believe that one of the transmissions has a keyway to disconnect the transfer case but I could have been imagining that from the manual.

maybe brakes are locked on a little. It should push easily. Maybe get a little more oomph to get it moving.

As long as the transmission is not malfunctioning you just need to push harder. It can take up to 5-10% of the weight of the car to get moving from zero aka 250-500# of force. You can air up the tires to their maximum allowable to help

If the brakes aren't sticking you should be able to push it. But they are a bitch to push. Especially by yourself. They are heavy!

You should be able to push it in Neutral. Try harder? Is the emergency brake on? Has it been parked for a while and the rotors rusted a little bit? Are the tires flat?

The X5 is a heavy truck to move. My driveway is flat and I can't push my X5 into the garage by myself either.

If it has been sitting very long they are very hard to push. I can't push mine unless I face away from the vehicle, use my legs and rock it to get started. If there is the slightest incline or the wheels are not straight--not a chance. It's a good way to start having back problems. Realistically, it's a two or more person job.

What he said. Unless the truck is in the garage and the tires are well inflated... it's a fools errand to try to push it alone.

thank you everyone that replied so fast. my x5 had been sitting for over a year, so as you guys suggested I believe the brake rotors were a little rusted. I also underestimated the weight of the vehicle and I definitely was not able to move it on my own.

I was lucky and was able to get the car started enough to limp into my garage on it's own power. I owe everyone a beer! thanks for the help.
