I suspect the answer is - it wouldn't. Or shouldn't. In theory, it can be removed from the car completely.

Correct, it wouldn't and the extended wiring harness connects to the DSP amp in the rear. In fact I removed the whole obsolete factory stuff from the car except the DSP amp and speakers, and replaced it with Avin4 head unit. Avin4 is remarkably identical in looks to the factory head unit (down to the buttons, curvature of the unit and all) but with all the current technologies and running android. I think an untrained eye wouldn't tell it's not factory. I'm very happy with it - looks and quality of the unit.

Without rewiring, then yes. Much easier to just plug in the iBus adapter than rewiring the entire DSP amp system in the X5.

Ibus adapter is nowhere to be found outside of Eastern Europe. Re wiring the dsp amp to an aftermarket. Boo
