DSP aftermarket head unit question

Which bring us back to bagpype's question - why would a dead BM53 stop an Android HU working?

I suspect the answer is - it wouldn't. Or shouldn't. In theory, it can be removed from the car completely.

Correct, it wouldn't and the extended wiring harness connects to the DSP amp in the rear. In fact I removed the whole obsolete factory stuff from the car except the DSP amp and speakers, and replaced it with Avin4 head unit. Avin4 is remarkably identical in looks to the factory head unit (down to the buttons, curvature of the unit and all) but with all the current technologies and running android. I think an untrained eye wouldn't tell it's not factory. I'm very happy with it - looks and quality of the unit.

That looks great! I decided I’m going with the same unit you have. Overall I have heard mostly positive things about it.

Careful with that OBD connection. I have a GPS device from my insurance company connected to the OBD II port and if I don't drive the car monthly, the battery can discharge to a state that t needs a jump just to start the engine. The GPS device is always on so that I can locate my car with an App.

I yanked out the Tmobile hotspot device and got my money back. Lots of complaints of battery drain if vehicle is parked for several days. I'm now planning to replace my iphone with an android phone - probably the latest galaxy.

Did you need an ibus adapter to make the dsp amp play sound?

Without rewiring, then yes. Much easier to just plug in the iBus adapter than rewiring the entire DSP amp system in the X5.

Ibus adapter is nowhere to be found outside of Eastern Europe. Re wiring the dsp amp to an aftermarket. Boo
