Just did an Ibus app update and the sounds remained the usual. Did you say the new sound is only upon engine start?
Yeah its on engine start, or when I switch the ignition on. I havnt tested if its the same on doors open or other events though.

Its blown me away as I have absolutely no idea where it came from. I've had the car for years and its never happened....Then suddenly out of nowhere I start the car one evening and its got the "new" bmw gong on start up lol. I spent a little while trying to figure out where its coming from looking through ibus settings and the settings for my xtrons (thinking it may have got an update) but I cant find anything obvious at all.

If its not an ibus thing, its gotta be an xtrons thing. I will take a bit more time to go through all the xtrons settings and see if I can find it when the wife gets home with the car this afternoon.

It does have to be XTrons- and maybe even the iBus app that is causing it. It was recently updated. Also, were it iBus only, it would sound not through the speakers, but through the single speaker under the dash whether the radio was powered or not.

I have used 4 Xtrons units and have never seen an OTA update for them. Since the iBus app recently updated, and can be told to check for and DL new updates, I suspect like X5Only that the sound at least runs through the Xtrons into the car speakers.

On the iBus app, you can set a start up message for the MID. I have mine set up as a greeting. I believe you can ask the app to accompany this message with an audible gong as well. I do not use this feature.

Edit:

I have attached two places that I found in a quick review of the iBus App for gongs. Either of these two options if so configured would render the sound you hear:

So have you looked at these or other settings yet?
