ews synchronization help [solved]

Hey all; installed a used replacement DME tried to program it with rheingold ISTA-P as a 'replaced module' and got a warning (!) message during the procedure to resynchronize with the EWS system. Anyway, cranks but no fuel and ignition as is normal when these modules don't communicate.
Anyone gone through this before ?

You can't just swap a used DME in unless it has been virginized which will then allow the EWS Sync. You will need the matching EWS and key to go with it to get it to start if it has not been virginized...

Looks like I need to get x-prog and write a coding over the particular memory chip inside the DME board or send my key and DME to Specialized ECU Repair in florida for programming. But first, I need to continue diagnostics to determine if I have that canbus fault that was locking out my transmission with my existing DME that was potentially problematic.

I think if you have a tool to clear the ISN from the DME it will allow you to sync the EWS and start the X5.

No idea how to do this. I'm trying my Jamaican BMW remote tech support contact to see if he can install this software for me.

This may require more than software and cracking the DME open to connect to one of the chips inside thay stores the ISN on it. Not many forum members have experience with this kind of stuff. Good luck!

Get a copy of BMW Scanner 1.4, the correct OBD cables, and follow this video.
If you are a halfway decent mechanic and have a little IT knowledge you should be able to align the DME and EWS system

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-HM5hpMNvQk

You can also use Carsoft 6.5. I did it for a couple of BMW owners back in the days.

thanks - i actually watched that youtube video before posting a new thread.

Here's the opinion from my bmw tech contact;
Quote:
The used modules can work with Autohex2 or Abrites commander
The Dealership program cannot resync used CAS and used DME. THE VEHICLE ORDER or different and BMW dont allow swapped CAS, DME BDC. FEM FRM, DSC, LM, FRM, KOMBI that collect Milage data to be reused.
Seems like the choices here are send the set of parts to Specialized ECU repair, or get the tools from ebay.

Update; last year I determined how to clone the existing binary data from the old ECM to the used replacement, after I was able to complete the EWS synchronization procedure.

The abrites commander program was not compatible with the existing dme ME 7.x.x

I was able to perform this procedure on the workbench. I had to use a program called 'new serial 1260' that comes with Flasher Galetto 1260 EOBD programmer with FTDI chip on board. And had to use the Audi option as it was the only way to communicate with the dme. See screen shots.

I did write a word document of the instructions are attached, not easy to do.

Damn, nice work. Way beyond my capabilities. I’m limited to monkey skills and some heavy lifting! I do worry about the DME, EWS, or some other box taking a dump on me and am considering having the EWS deleted in the future as the car gets (even) older.

I’m assuming that when I read about the “EWS delete” offered by tuners that would make it easier to replace a failed DME?
