Can you check trans oil pressure? If oil pressure is measured and applied, the trans could be toast. Check if solenoid input is correct in gear. Software should read solenoid on/off inputs.

Pump in the transmission is dead.

The engine is good. So, I'll sell that. Take the interior. Junk the rest.

Well that stinks. Transmission failures send so many good vehicles to recycling. I’ve saved a few because I do my own work.

Any other good parts? I’m too far away but I have family in Huntsville, Al.

I am pretty weak on transmissions..I know how to change fluid and filters and that's it...

Can I ask you how you determined pump had failed? Is it as simple as pulling off a trans cooler line at the radiator and checking flow with engine running?

Transmissions have ports to measure oil pressure. A plug is removed and a gauge is installed. You shift though the gears and check oil pressure. Is should change and go up as needed.

I could rebuild the trans or just swap another in. Not worth the hassle on this one though. The time to get it all sorted out would not be cost effective. So, I'll take what I need from it.

It has xenon adaptive headlights. Lenses are pretty milky, but they are good. Tail lights are good. No dents in any panels. Glass is all good. Motor is really good. All the modules are good. The panoramic sunroof works very well.

I'm taking the entire black leather interior and seats. So, there will be a nice beige interior from my other one available. I'm taking the entire exhaust system from the headers back. The whole thing is new.

I think that's all I'm using from it.

Well, when I start the car I can hear the pump making noise. The car will move forward and reverse only for a moment. Then the pump goes quiet. If I turn the car off and back on, the same nose from the pump and fwd and rev for a moment. Then pump quiet again and no movement.

I could be wrong because I didn't test it to confirm. Someone else told me it's the torque converter.

Whatever it is, it's not a simple quick fix like the the other one I have. Well, swapping another trans in isn't too hard. But, I get more out of it getting what I need off it.

Make sure you keep the power steering pump..I think it is an X5-only part number and a new Genuine BMW reman is $600 ( A Bosch rebuilt is $300).

If you are pulling the engine, maybe you keep the steering rack also...

I am chasing down a groaning power steering system and have already replaced the power steering pump, reservoir and one hose...more hoses to come..

+1

Wish I still had my APO as I can get rebuilt PS pumps for the e53's at 174 USD over here.
