You would maybe have to do a smoke test to determine if you have a leak on one of the hoses involved in the evap system.

update.
I tried a different fuel cap. This one seems to me much tighter. I actually traded it from my E39 wagon. I also checked my OBD and all monitors have checked in with an OK. There are no codes or pending codes. I feel that the new gas cap fixed it. Will I need to perform several drive tests to confirm my repair?
