Valley Pan - FAST Leaker
E53 has been a garage queen so can't pinpoint it.....seems to leak on extended drives but the last 2 extended, haven't seen the level go *low* in the tank. But the Valley Pan is leaking....if I crawl underneath when it's gone low, you can see it raining from the back of the belly plate. I checked and can't to be see it coming from a heater hose.
For those in the know.....since whenever it does decide to leak from the valley pan, it seems to lose quite a bit over a extended drive. I suppose 40 miles round trip is not that extended. Will one day the VP all just gush out and I'm SOL. Not looking to tackle this VP leak on this car ......but don't really want to be sitting on the side of the road either. Maybe it will really be destined as the grocery getter ;-). It's been sitting in out weekend home and mainly just used to exercise it when I'm out there. |

Which motor? M62 known for the VP coolant pipe seal failing. There is a two part pipe designed to repair without having to remove any front side parts just the intake.
When rebuilding m62, I will refurbish the original pipe which will have horrible pitting on both ends and seal the outside of the pipe with rtv so weather won't get in under the seal from the outside and corrode from the outside in. I can't remember what all needs to come off the front to repair those coolant pipes but I had the whole front off to replace chain guides. I think there is also a repair "sleeve" kit that goes through the water pump. Oh I found. It's for N62: https://bimmerfix.com/vehicles I would do one of the two repairs vs. front removal. The N62 fox doesn't even need the intake removed.
