Window regulator

I replaced the broken left rear regulator a year ago.

The glue holding the door card plastic broke and I Gorilla epoxyed it back togeter.

Now the clip broke.

And of course the door card plastic needs to be reglued.

My question is while I am gluing the door card will the door open from the outside without a door card?

Thanks in advance

Brad

1) Yes.
2) You can operate the interior release by yanking on the cable.

Thanks for the reply.

Do you think the outside door handle will work to open the door?

Thanks again.

Thanks!

I'd hate to close the door without the door card and then...

Yeah, you're safe.

The really fun part is when the door latch mechanism fails and you have to take the door card off in the car with the door shut. Had to do that in my old E46 M3. It was awkward.

You didn't ask this, but:

I use Ultra Black Gasket maker - Black in color - nearly every time I pull an X5 door panel to re-glue the plastic anchors, brackets, etc on the inside of the panel. I apply the gasket maker, then clamp the piece as best I can with slide clamps or c-clamps with pieces of wood and/or cardboard to prevent marring the leather surface.

Very happy with results.

I think I got the idea here:

Thanks so much for the tip.

I had used Gorilla epoxy a year ago. When I removed the door card again the plastic easily came apart where it was glued. I also had glued the top left clip holder which also separated easily.

I was planning on doubling or tripling the amount of Gorilla epoxy. This looks like a much better solution.

I am not a fan of removing and replacing door cards just to replace the $3 broken clip. I tightened the 8mm screw tighter this time.

Of course it doesn't help that I have not replaced the driver door caddy and the only way I get into the E53 is lowering the windows every time with the key fob and reaching in.

Thanks again!

Brad

It works great. Anytime a door panel comes off it gets the treatment as preventative maintenance. I ended up making a short YouTube video on it when I was doing a stereo upgrade.
