Hello everyone,
I have an up date - the seal is out.
Today I went to my local Napa store and asked for the seal remover tool made by Evercraft
p/n 776-9250 and I was told this p/n does not exist in Canadian inventory. The sales person assumed it was only available in the US. On the way home I stopped by an automotive shop where a friend of mine works and I asked him if he had one of these tools. He did and he lent it to me. Back at home I compared the diameters of the one I purchased on amazon to the one that was lent to me and I found on the Amazon tool the inside diameter is 0.511” and the outside diameter of the tip where it enters the seal is 0.577”. The tool lent to me measured 0.505” and 0.542” respectively, so his was slightly smaller. Before I tried using his tool, I heated the outside area with a heat gun and applied a little heat to the rubber, to try to soften the rubber. I then inserted the tool and with a small flat pry bar resting on the driveshaft, (very little pressure on the drive shaft) I pushed the tool with the pry bar and turned the tool at the same time. Using this method it took me about 5 minutes to get the seal out. Tomorrow I will clean the drive shaft with a fine emery cloth and some oil, and I will install the seal, transmission pan, etc. Thanks guys for all of your help. Really glad I didn’t have to pull the drive shaft out.
