Couldn't agree with you more on BMW's modern era bikes. The 1970-1995 airhead twins are some of my favorites though. I've had 'em for 30+ years and have always appreciated their simplicity and reliability. The things just go forever, and parts availability from BMW (as well as aftermarket suppliers) is still very good.

Amazon overnight delivery saved the day when I ordered an offset wrench set. The special one being 21/23 mm. I wanted it mostly for their length and offset access. They work great on suspension bolts. No one in Austin had a 21 mm offset wrench! It would take days to get one from mostly local parts stores. Now, I have a nice shiny set to use.
Tekton offers pretty decent no-skip socket sets for reasonable money.

6-24mm, 3/8 drive, no skips. nice quality sockets. above, say, Gearwrench in quality. way better than current craftsman and nicer than vintage craftsman. $98

They want too much money for a lot of their stuff, but their basic tools are very reasonable.

Engineering marvels.
They make a stubby allen socket for that. I bought one. Works great.

Out of stock right now, but the carbyne set I linked is brilliant. They *also* work in a box wrench, so you can really get them into tight spaces.

X5chemist will become famous soon enough
Wow, nice tool sets. I'll have to put them on my Christmas wish list. I have to carry two sets when I work away from home. Short and deep sockets. The Tekton has both. For deep sockets, I carry a 1/2" drive black impact set. It goes down to 11 mm.

I've been buying Tekton since I discovered them. They're well made and have a lifetime guarantee. I had a 3/8 torque wrench that I lost a screw in. I contacted them to see if I could get a replacement screw and they sent me a replacement torque wrench! Doesn't get much better in customer service than that.
