ISTA no communication to modules (egs,...)
Hi all,

New to the forum here, recently bought an bmw e53 4.8is from 2004. I'm working on the maintenance (zero status) and wanted to do a transmission oil change including the mechatronics seals.

To replace those i need to be able to readout the oil temp. in the gearbox.
I have connected the to ista and found many fault code related to "no communication"

I have checked the obd connection for a 12V supply on pin 16. which is present.

Can you guys please help what to check next?

What interface you are using, are pins 7 and 8 connected together?

These with metal sump it's quite easy to check by hand that temp is in the required 30-50 C range.

On the interface side those pins should be in same potential (shorted).

With interface, you mean on the other side of the plug, right?

The diagnostic cable you are using.

bridging pins is needed on early X5's

I bought a blue cable on Amazon, and it also has 7 & 8 bridged. Works fine on my 2001 X5 (K-line only), on INPA (using my Windows 11 laptop), or while running Torque Pro, OBDLink, or BimmerTool apps on my Android tablet.

Check your windows firewall. You need to make sure it’s allowing communication with the cable/car. I disable mine altogether on my dedicated car laptop.
