Another way to compare cars total drive rato is how many turns per mile.

Example;

2500rpm * 60 min. /hr * 1hr/75mile

2500*60/75=2000rev/mile

I think my Z28 was about 1200 rev/mile.

Ride shotgun with me next weekend on a 400-mile road trip and you'll appreciate that listening to RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR gets kinda old after hour three.

On my e70 I use bimmerlink to hold the Exhaust flap open but the droan is headache inducing before 3-4 hours so I turn it to auto mode for long freeway trips.

Huh, I have B-Link and an OBD-Ethernet thing, I'll see what the options are. Thx!

I drove my manual 2001 X5 from Orlando to Austin the day I bought it and didn't have any issues with the gear ratios, or any droning from the exhaust. It runs quietly and easily, even on the 85mph tollways here in Texas...

We don't have any exhaust flaps on E53s. That's just E70s.

I even have 4.6iS mufflers and I don't hear any kind of drone with my 2003 5MT car either. I've taken mine on lots of road trips too. It just has short gears and the only problem with that is the terrible gas mileage -- which the automatic cars also seem to experience despite their taller final drives. Other than that, who cares what RPM you are cruising at? It's not like it's hurting anything.

This is why I only considered the 6MT when I bought my X5.

If you find that annoying, then you’d probably find mine just plain awful. LoL..

This is what mine sounds like, with revs to 3800 rpm.

Even though mine is just as loud as GT class racers, I have zero drone on the inside. And with the widows up, and the sound system playing I cannot even hear it at all on the inside.

The ratio allows me to make very strong passes on the highway without the need to shift to 4th gear. I can go from 60 mph to 90 mph very quickly. The manual E53’s were designed this way. It isn’t hurting anything. I love it!
