Anyone knowledgeable on bullet proofing cars?

So I’m looking for ways to make my e53 more bullet resistant. Also focussing on shrapnel mostly. Looking for leads and or companies that could supply these kind of materials. Not looking for armour just for small rounds and shrapnel. Thanks in advance!

andrewwynn will become famous soon enough
Pretty common process in Mexico I think bmw may even have deals worked out for sending a new car for hardening. Personal retrofit will be very difficult and expensive. Especially when it comes to glass

Been there, done that...

If you have access to a plasma cutter then you can order your plates from TEEX and get a passable lvl 5.

Going homemade is as easy as sandbags on the floor and using old lvl 3 soft police armor inside door cards and seat backs.

The cheapest and best for your needs is to order dragon-skin and wear it religiously, it will allow survival from laying on an M67 frag grenade....

I did 9 years in Central and South America, 2 in Bosnia Herzegovina and now the Middle East since 2008. Only buy the best and most comfortable equipment or else you won't be wearing it when you most need it.

So I already have my Kevlar with class 4 plates. It’s actually kinda nice to wear not gonna lie. Great back support. But it’s more for shrapnel than all rounds. Was looking into the Kevlar blankets but haven’t found a proper supplier for those.
Unfortunately in our situation heavy armour is a big downside. Leopard 2’s keep sinking cause they don’t have the right footprint for example.

Believe it or not the glass wasn’t a mayor issue. Found several options for that since again I’m not looking for ap resistant glass. Just to keep the pieces out of my mouth.

Thanks for the input though it’s much appreciated!

When it comes to old Kevlar I still have another vest from 15 years ago. Does that still make sense to put into the seat? Got scammed one time buying some vests so I keep it around as a reminder to check 4 times…..

I also redid my ecu to basically ignore most settings that will put a car into limp mode just in case. Better safe then sorry right!

Currently still prepping for a 12 week trip to wherever we can achieve the most so still got some time.

I run boron ceramide 4s. They'll stop .308 AP from 10 feet and withstand 10 rnds 1" apart and use a plate carrier with lvl 3 soft incorporated.

If the protection you're worried about is for lower extremities then sandbags on the floor and soft armor removed from old police type vests work great.

I have used this setup for over 7 years in Afghanistan and stopped me getting injured after taking direct fire from a PKM and several IEDs. I never had nor used up armor.

Thanks for that! I’ll look into the sand bags and maybe some more old Kevlar for the floor!
Boron is kinda becoming standard luckily. The other normal ceramics are slowly getting phased out luckily. Have seen to many inconsistencies with them unfortunately…..
Now I only have to figure out if I can maybe get some Kevlar to laminate into the doors.

Thanks again for the tips!

Ps: hopefully have it in by the end of the day.

Also still had some small side plates see if they fit in the headrest

Looks effective and even though it's not a requirement it's looking good

PS. Don't forget sandbags under your ass and not just your legs!!

Thanks! I’ll definitely keep that one in mind!
Luckily there is a bunch of room under the seats. I’ll fill the bags when I’m on my way to the shitshow part of the country…….
For the rear I’m making a steel skid plate under the tank and will put more Kevlar under the seat not much more I could do there unfortunately.

Remember angles too...
I.E. rear doors that a penetrating round or frag that will allow a direct line to important body parts.

Also remember to get off the X in an ambush in the fastest way possible (almost NEVER reverse) thru an edge that makes most of the enemy stop firing so they don't hit their guys between you and them, also most crew served weapons mounted on vehicles or bipods don't depress too far as you push thru.
