Comfort Glass situation

Okay so while I had my BMW X5 in the body shop for a few dents and dings adjustments, I wanted to go ahead and replace my original windshield that was cracked at the top for a new one. Since I was springing for a new one I figured on getting the comfort glass model which goes by the part number 51 31 7 064 863. The body shop has the glass put in and when I see it I don't see the color hue on the windshield or the in between film that has the cutouts for the radar
sensor and mirror toll tag cutout. There is no film present that I can see. I question the shop about glass since I gave the specific part number directly from BMWfans info. So thy tell me the glass is the climate comfort version. The part number on the invocice for the glass is FW02382GGYN and the maker of this glass is Sekurit. Does anyone have the comfort glass that appears to have no inner film yet has some solar shielding on it that makes up for the visible film? Or does everyone that has the comfort glass actually have a visible film in their glass with some type of color hue?

I had a mobile glass repair dispatcher say that they installed the comfort glass for me as well.. after work I went out in the parking lot and it looked like a plain glass windshield. Pretty sure the comfort glass had a hue to it, especially if your wearing polarized sunglasses. I think it was just a way for them to get a couple extra bucks.. I paid 400 (knew it sounded too good to be true), comparable companies charge $230 for the plain aftermarket glass.

This thread has pics of a PGW brand glass - I will say the comfort glass is very subtle, you don't notice the tint unless you wear polarized sunglasses -

http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...indshield.html

FWIW Sekurit Saint Gobain is one of the OE glass manufacturers for BMW - I think my OE windshield is a Sekurit but has a roundel, I wouldn't hesitate to get a Sekurit replacement without the roundel -

Is there any writing on the glass indicating "laminated" etc? Show us a pic - my thing is if its not green tinted its the comfort glass.

Also see a PGW OE (with roundel) glass using the Comfort w/sensor part number that e30cabrio nstalled in this post (not that e30cabrio and X5SND had the same brand windshield installed, 1 has a roundel - the part numbers are the same!) -

Tint can possibly vary among manu.

the telltale sign is the cutoffs though.
So it may interfere with some electronics, even by sitting inside, you should Clearly SEE a cutout in the middle top and bottom of the glass to allow for such.

? Who paid for the glass. Out of pocket or insc? What was the invoice price of the glass (sans labor). That should at least clue you in - assuming you have some level of a invoice..

Insurance replacement. I have 100% glass coverage and DEMANDED "OE" absolutely no "OEM" glass. Asked to upgrade, that I would pay difference between, green and comfort. Portland dealer quoted same price... So I got it for free!!! I have a friend from grade school days that works for Safelite (who is the preferred installer by my insurance company) so I requested him to be the one who did the work. I watched and helped where I could and am beyond happy!

PS... I also demanded that when it showed up it still had a BMW part sticker still attached that I could inspect BEFORE any install / removal started...

+1

These pics are exactly what I see as well. I do not have a radar detector cut out below the mirror.
