What's this?? Found under rear bench seat

Took off the rear bench in the X earlier today to check the siphon pump and probably replace the fuel pump and FPR and filter and found this tucked away under there:

Anyone have any idea what this is?

Doesn't seem to be factory installed and certainly wasn't installed in my ownership.

Yes, interesting. The purple and black wires below go to something that looks like a backup battery.

So my guess it is something for anti-theft or tracking. Maybe installed by a previous lending company in case repo is needed. Maybe by the dealer while parked on the lot for sale. Guessing on all this.

I've had the rear seat bottom off for fuel pump access and never noticed something like this.

Is this part of your battery drain problem?

(and shame about the hack-job on lining... )

Quite possibly! and yea shame about the lining clearly fitted by some cowboy. The foam section that fits into there also has a section cut out to leave space for that part.

Found some time to get back outside and investigate.

The wire is taped alongside the loom that runs under the rear bench and goes all the way to the other side of the car and then up behind the backrest, between the backrest and the wheel arch / C piilar.

I pulled at it gently and it came away with this on the end:

So looks like it an aerial of some kind probably. Guess that fits the theory of it being a tracker?
