The collective wisdom in a place like this is palpable. Just feels good.

Really appreciate the assistance folks- All the tips have been great!

I do have the vapor barrier removed, and will use that tip on re-attaching the air bag 180. The car has been sitting in my garage for awhile now as I have been putting this off, will be back at it tomorrow.

I think you may have gotten threads crossed- but no worries, I will likely replace the DHC while I am in the door for the window regulator!

For DHC, please use genuineBMW!

I hung it from the bottom hole with a zip tie. There's really no need to disconnect it or the battery.

So I have managed to avoid getting around to finishing this job for the past month, and need to get back to it. I still have my deep reservations about messing around with the airbag- my main reason for avoidance....

I need to power up the window mechanism, and would prefer to just avoid connecting the airbag. I understand this will trigger the airbag lamp, and the code will need to be cleared. Does this require BMW exclusive software, ie dealer only or will a competent indie likely have this?

Thanks!

You do not need to disconnect airbag.

I just remove the airbag screws and do the airbag 180° and re attach with one of the screws. It hangs out past the door so you can't shut the door but non issue for fixing the window regulator.

Lubricate the guides. The friction on the edges of the glass cause most window related problems.

I don't have a link for you but one more helpful tip: use a break away utility knife extended several inches out to cut thru the butyl, you can heat with a heat gun (or with extreme caution including fire extinguisher at the ready), a micro torch to reactivate the butyl glue for the vapor barrier.

Foxwell will reset airbag and abs codes that basic scanners won't.
