Blower fan

I’ve been reading up on the various dash removal threads, and appreciate all the great lessons learned and guidance. The cold weather in a left hand turn screeching is getting to my limit so I’m likely going to do this job this summer, when I have 4 or 5 days off and can devote to it.

My question is, are there any other items I should consider replacing while in there, so this can be a lifetime once and done job, hopefully? I’ve got some cracked defog vents I hope to replace, and I’ll give everything a good clean to remove 20 years of dirt and lint, but what about heater cores, AC parts, seals, the little motors that control the flaps…etc?

Thanks all

LCD panels in the mid or dash.

I've not read stories of preemptive flap motors but my mix flap control would always get stuck on one position so i would clean/lube fix that while in there

Thanks Andrew. There are quite a few of those little motors, at $90 a pop, so maybe I’ll lean towards the clean and lube route too! LCD panels, you mean the LCDs in the cluster, radio and/or heat and ac control panel?

The one I'm talking about no motor. Just the Bowden cable controlled flap for the outside air mix in the center of the dash. Mine would get stuck on cold i would worry I'd snap any time i pulled out of cold mode

I don't think there is much that commonly goes wrong that overlaps all that much with replacing the blower motor. Plus, the blower job is not nearly as big as it seems/looks and you will probably spend 1/2 the time or more cleaning.

I recently pulled my 180k mile evaporator and heater core. They weren’t in terrible condition. You’ll mostly want to clean, take care of any steering column issues if you have them, take care of any center console issues if you have them, and have some fuzzy cloth tape (Tesa 51608 on Amazon) handy if you need to re-tape some wiring while you’re in there.

I did a big write up on how to remove the blower motor. It's pretty easy.
What I did tho and it made a difference was install a 10mm thick foam sound insulation behind the dash and in various other ares of the bulkhead.

I'm keeping watch on yawl. Mine will need a blower motor soon too. I should tackle it before it fails. It's at the bottom of my preventative maintenance list.
