Pop goes something back there!
But no, now the X drives horribly above 30miles. Shaking, vibrating, steering doesn't shake....feels like the left (passenger) wheels is about to come off if I go any faster. Driver side seems fine. Could not get a visual, stopped to get gas no sign of fluid leakage of any sort. Possibly could it be the rear drive train snapped a bolt and disconnected! Rear Differential? X just turns 20 this year 225k on the clock. Sent from my REVVL V+ 5G using Tapatalk Last edited by getty150; 03-09-2025 at 09:44 AM. |

I replaced it back in 2014...not a hard job. But with most BMW jobs intensive. Sent from my REVVL V+ 5G using Tapatalk |

How old are the driveshafts? All four of mine are new. I have no beef to hit the pedal on some snow and ice. The center bearing is also new. Guibos too.

I use this app:
https://apps.apple.com/app/id1089589547 To determine the exact frequency of the vibration 2225cm is the tire rolling circumference, a little math gets your from kph/mph to Hz If you have 3.0 motor, 4.1x the wheel speed is the drive shaft speed. I had a cv joint get stuck once and holy crap what a wobble. Cv is 6:1 or 3:1 ratio of the wheel Hz. Note that the speedometer reads 3mph (4.8 kph) high when taking your speed for the math.

Well, wrapped things up last night.
Job completed. The problem... •Center support bearing: toast •Rear drive shaft: toast (welded U joint broke) Good news... •Guibo: Good condition (no cracks) •Car jack: Purchased really good low profile floor jack from Harbor freight half price! Finally made the job way much easier. Great timing.

Broken driveshaft!? Don’t read about that every day. It’s a shame the ujoint isn’t easily serviceable, like normal cars.

Giubo
(joo boh) (Not a criticism just information I found out when not long ago learning myself.) Jaxk: HF has very decent jacks i have the 2 ton aluminum speed jack. Great you got it fixed and almost better you were able to self propel home vs a tow.
