Understood and on close inspection the top ridges of the bellows all have dry rot cracks not clear if leaking though, and for sure the outer larger end of the boot that is held in place by the oetiker clamp is dry rotting close to the clip, from here i could see small leaks (as per pic) got out a rubber glue and applied liberally 360 way round over the cracks you see ---and also over the cracks on the bellows, but not to the extent that I glued em together. Gonna see if i get any squirts of the m0s2 grease in the inner wheel arch, and if yes will go down the clingfilm route as wpoll suggested and secured at both end with a cable tie....friggin mechanic 16 days at best and called around other said 19days (and this is not a diy i can do, no chance)

Have had it patched up since saturday and seems to be holding....not sure mechanic will be happy with the goop but it can be removed from the area of the shaft covered that wasn't supposed to be covered as intention was seal the cracks in the cv boot and not glue all ridges on bellow together, pig of a thing to do without taking off tire...stilll got an aching neck from being under x5 for too long
