temporary patching of torn cv boot possilbe?

Okayz hello to all, saw usual signs of gunk in front wheel arch, and one sides gone so probably other will go too , these are the larger outer bellows I am referring too, earliest appointment at at garage is in 16 DAYS time.

Called around couple of places both said same when asked if an issue to drive until repair date 2 weeks away, they said had it been winter and wet would be an issue but driving it now is ok (note it is very dry and dusty out here)

Anyone got any good idea how I can keep the area and splines inside boot dust free till that date? duct tape not sure will hold on boot, maybe wrap it with a good electrical tape instead so can get in between the ridges in the bellow? any tips much appreciated. I know i cant go too mad as the things needs to flex on turning the wheels otherwise I would have got some rubber repair glue and given it a go that way

I don't think any kind of tape will hold long enough to matter. Dorman sells split boot repair kits, maybe you can use of of those?

Cling film and zip ties....

Centrifugal forces and driving not in dirty and wet will keep the joint fairly clean for a short time. When repaired all the grease is removed and replaced.

I've driven quite a while with a split boot and it survived until i re grease and replace the boot.

If the outer CV boot, is not an expensive part to replace the whole thing.

Thanks for tip but out here on the edge of europe we don't have these....and time it takes to get it shipped here is not worth it alas cos i will have it at garage by then...but yes good thinking as andrewynn said.....

good thinking, the split it is at the smaller end on the bellow , you reckon i wrap the whole boot with clingfilm and cable tie both ends i.e the narrower part near the shaft and where the damage is and the opposite wide part ? i was really tempted to get some liquid rubber , clean that area and dab it over and see how that holds up , i guess anything will help to avoid getting well dust in the split...cos at the moment all we have is dust out here, noooo rain.....literally no rain, hosepipe ban is on the cards...

If you can clean the oil off the edges super glue holds rubber almost as good as fingers.

I've glued together my intake boot that was cut in three separate pieces and no intake leak error for a week while waiting for replacement

okays thanks, Gonna have a look soon see whats going on, give it a clean and see how big a tear there is and yes perhaps superglue or use some other rubber repair glue I have...or superglue it and then a layer of some some repair glue....

Less is more. You don't want to add thickness at a fold. If the tear Is at inside fold you can bring the seam up the fold but i would do it the full 360.

That would likely be a long term fix like months
