Right apologies to bring this up again re the bmw approval on oils, this company produces below spec oil that is BMW LL 01 approved https://www.avista-lubes.de/en/produ...ger-sae-5w-40/
The same company as mentioned earlier supplies 5w-40 synthetic oil to a large supermarket chain that sells the oil under its own label however the oil is MINUS the BMW LL 01 approved.
Is this to do with the supermarket having to pay royalties or any fee to have the BMW-LL01 on its product label or not?
I have approached supermarket with simple question and doubt will get answer , question being the oil you sell under your own name is it the same as the one the oil company makes...?

Viscosity:
SAE 5W-40

Approvals:
API SN; BMW LL 01; MB-Freigabe 229.5

Are all the other approvals still mentioned on the supermarket branded container/label, esp. the MB approval?

I see why you mention the MB rating as they are pretty close to the bmwll01

MB 229.5: Generally considered more stringent regarding sludge resistance (scoring 10/10 vs. 8/10 for LL-01), deposits, evaporation loss, and wear protection.
BMW LL-01: Often has more stringent oxidation requirements, which is critical for pushing the maximum oil change interval. It scores slightly higher for wear protection in some comparison charts (8/10 vs. 7/10 for MB 229.5).
Shared Standard: Both specifications require a minimum High-Temperature High-Shear (HTHS) viscosity of 3.5, ensuring the oil maintains its protective film under extreme stress.
