Great news (not) on the rear end. I wondee if it would be possible to swap in the auto and use auto half shafts? I've not been able to post photos here without an external link. If I'm missing something, I'm all ears. |

Manual Radiator is available via aftermarket.
Go to eBay or Google and search "BMW 17117544669"...

I really appreciate you trying to be helpful and all, but it is NOT AVAILABLE. I have one of those next to my old one. They are NOT a manual radiator. They say that they are, but they are not. Look on REALOEM. It will say that the auto radiator is discontinued, but it;s actually the manual one that's discontinued. I have one of those radiators. I have looked at all of the listings with the pictures. The sellers are lying because there are simply not enough people to complain. The manual radiator is NOT available new.

I understand you bought an Auto Rad.
The companies such as Nissens make a "universal rad" with the plugs....it is basically an Auto Rad and for ppl with Man Trans, Nissens provides the plugs to plug the cooler ports. But the Man Rad is available, again via aftermarket, not necessarily Behr (original supplier). The aftermarket is basically Chinese, for the most part.

They say it is universal, but there are no plugs.

If this works right, there will be three photos... one with the auto radiator on the manual one, one with the adapter plate on the old raditaor, and one with the plate on the new one.

delete.
FWIW I bought a cheap China radiator for my (now-crushed) manual Volvo 240 that had the ports for ATF, but it also came with plugs. Never had a problem. Y'all are implying that a rad for an automatic would piss coolant out of the ATF ports when installed in a manual E53? How?

Did you see the pictures? The e53 uses an external heat exchanger. There is about a 1/2" hole that will dump the coolant out as fast as you pour it in if you don't seal it up.
