Yep. I've replace the cam sensors before over the 200k+ miles. This presents itself just like then, with the exception of the engine shutdown during straight line driving. In the past when engine shut down, it was during a turn or into a parking space. But regardless, this is why I think I'll change both cam sensors with OEM to rule that out. I have some concern about the wires that run from the junction box on the intake side, over to the exhaust side cam sensor. The black sleeve over these wires is gone. So I have like 6 or 7 colored wires. They seem ok, but maybe something going on inside? Is there any info about how to replace these. I think they are part of the bigger wiring harness, meaning I'd have to cut and splice to change it.

I saw you post over Bimmerfest..

I might suggest you change the title on this thread. I didn't even look at this thread becasue it seemed kind of basic...I also have never had an ISCV fail on any of my 8 BMWs.

In order to get the most eyes on this issue, the title of this thread should reference the stalling issue you are having. Something like " Help!..Car stalls at lowe speeds/RPMs "

I am not confident in the smoke test you say your mechanic did...Do you have a non-dealer BMW Specialist you can bring it to? Somebody who knows the M54 well?

You should also add the OBDFuison app and a compatible wifi or bluetooth OBD2 reader to your tool box...Reading your fuel trims in real time would be a real help here. OBDFUsion can also do some real powerful logging of fuel trim data that could help here. BUt you have to set it up correctly.

Thank you. Sorry I know my thread got out of control. I've been crazy over this issue.

I'm going to order the veepeek and get the Android app.

Here is an updated summary of where I'm at:

THE SYMPTOMS: At low speeds, off throttle or while braking, like bumper to bumper or parking lot, the engine will shut off with no warning. No stumble, no jerking, no hesitation. Car settings like the clock maintain. The car restarts perfectly every time. I've noticed that around 20mph off throttle the rpms will bounce just a touch like between 800-1000 range it bumps around a little bit. Idles perfect around 600, never shuts down when idling. Drives at high speed like the ultimate driving machine, never turns off at high speed.

MY ATTEMPTS TO FIX (in order mostly)
New fuel pump and filter (tried 2 fuel pumps actually bc I did needed a new one earlier this year).
Replaced both camshaft sensors (not OEM), mechanic did it while I was ill for a short time
Mechanic said he did a vac test
Replaced crank sensor twice, 2nd time was BMW OEM new part from FCP Euro
Oil changed
Swapped and cleaned the MAF
Replaced Idle Air Control Valve (URO), after cleaning the original which was shot and now thrown out
Checked battery terminals and alternator, all looked good
Replaced all spark plugs
