It's not normal at all for the pressure to be off, no mechanic is going to check the pressure unless there is a known or suspected problem. DIYers not getting proper fuel pressure readings because of cheap gauges and fittings not hooking up properly is a BIG problem as bad as people not having a scan tool that will retrieve all the BMW specific codes.

I suppose. However, anyone one here that wants to go budget on their new Fuel Filter, I'd suggest taking the extra few minutes to check the pressure. Also, if having a stalling issue with no errors, pays to check fuel pressure - easy check. There is no fuel pressure sensor on the m54.

Well. Things aren't quite right just yet. Definitely way better as it made it 500 miles, but maybe just back to square one before the faulty fuel pressure. Car threw errors P0172 and P0175. Both banks are rich. It maybe stalled in parking lot, in reverse coming out of a spot, but I wasn't certain, but then it threw the codes a short minute after.

At this point I've changed everything with OEM, except for the MAF, but did at one point swap it with my 2006 and still had stalling issues. The MAF reading I'm getting is about 5g/s while idling and warm. LTFT are both about -9 percent and STFT seems okay, at idle and at 2500 rpm. Calculated engine load with AC off was about 16 percent.

I will fix this... At some point

I'm closely following your thread, since my X5 was/is exhibiting similar behavior, as highlighted in red above (and has been parked since 10-29-2025 https://xoutpost.com/1247122-post63.html, hoping that you'll find the solution before I tear my fuel system out.

I've also changed my pump, and have a proven-good MAF installed, done the adaptations reset (several times), and documented the suddenly-rich (after only the fuel pump was changed) fuel trims, in my own thread, at the link I posted above).

My health is finally OK enough to actually resume working on my X, after the weather gets a bit cooler (at 75, too much heat, above 100F working under a vehicle in direct sun, wouldn't be good for me, at this time (heck, just working on my old riding mower in the garage last week (installing a new battery and four new tires, tightening drive chains, etc., despite being in shade and using a box fan, was bad enough).

The new FPR/filter and hoses, followed by more testng, will have to wait a bit longer.

Well. I hope we both can solve this.

I swapped the MAF along with the air intake filter box and the accordion neck that was cracked and taped on the old car.

I cleared the codes and they didn't come back right away. Drove about 6 miles and LTFT are now settling down to about -3.71 and -3.12. the STFT are ok, +/-5.

Maf air flow g/s was running as low as 3.99 g/s at idle.

Everything else feels and seems ok.

Just drive 18 miles. The car drives beautifully.

LTFT trims are nearing back toward 0. I really can't say if this is fixed.

Definitely back to square 1 after swapping the bad fuel filter, that is for sure. My problems got much worse with the 80psi fuel pressure.

That is obd fusion app.

I'm sitting here thinking. I can't recall when I actually swapped the MAF last time. It might have been after the faulty fuel pressure regulator was in, so maybe that's why the car stalled after swapping the MAF and I assumed that, well - it's not my MAF. And put the old MAF back in. I'm not trying to poach parts long term from my 80k miles 2006. Just wanted to test.

So now the MAF is swapped. Will be interesting to see if it stalls again or I get the rich codes.

On your last drives, did you take any sharp turns or rapid switchback? Or even a rapid switch from reverse to forward? Those are the conditions where mine stumbles and seems like it's near to stalling, but recovers.

Never did any if the above before the old pump failed.

Old pump= lean condition without driveability problems

New pump= rich condition with stumbling on turns

What is your fuel pressure?

Yes,.I took a few turns at speed after reading some of your stuff. No issues here. My car never stumbles or hesitates, it just turns off.
