Light intermittent squeaking/squealing, goes away when brakes are applied

At first I thought it was a wheel bearing, changed it, didn't resolve it. Then I thought maybe caliper was sticking, so changed that too, also didn't resolve it. My suspicion is that the pads are not being held tight and making noise and i noticed the inner pad doesn't seem tight in the piston bore.

The noise is intermittent and at road wheel speed so I know it's downstream of the differential, and the biggest clue (IMO) is the noise goes away completely even with light brake pressure. It sounds like the right front. What are ya'lls thoughts? PAGID rotors and pads. I used disc brake quiet on the back of the pads where they meet the caliper. Brake hardware is all new (pins, bushings, springs).

If you can determine exact pad, rework the brake quiet.

Application steps:

• Backs of pads – Apply a thin, light coat on the metal backing where the pads contact the caliper piston and caliper body

• Wait time – Let it get tacky before installing pads (10-30 minutes recommended)

• Both pads – Apply to both the inner and outer pads

• Avoid – Do not apply to rotors, friction surfaces, or shimmed pads

I have had to rework a pad. I also had a customer who knocked a pad lose hitting a retread on the highway.

I have used on shimmed pads but both sides of shim.

Mine had an annoying knocking on a rear right pad. A pad was loose. Check the long thin metal holding bracket. Ensure it's clipped correct to the caliper.
What type or brand of brake pads are on it? I've seen some that squeak due to compounds used to make them. I always go with ceramic pads. On the caliper side, open up the prongs so the pad fits tight.

OK, I tried installing the pads again, bent the inner pad clip to make it more snug in the caliper piston and reapplied brake quiet and let it set this time (didn't do that before). We'll see if that takes care of the problem.

You might have to try a different set of pads.
I switched both the X5, from Pagid pads I had installed, and my wife's X3 which just had the brakes done when we bought it so I don't know the brand, for squeaking that I couldn't get rid of, to Power Stop brand and they have both been good ever since. Rotors, driving habits, and other factors can come into play though. Sometimes you can get rid of pad squeak, for a short time at least, by getting them heated up with some panic stops.

Pads squeaky slow speed usually not fast. When i get chirps at speed, it's always been related to the rock guards.

Try to have a helper sit in the back and drive past a cement wall each direction to lock down the corner with the issue

Is the squeak metallic or rubber sounding? Weight shifts when slowing down. A bushing could be going bad.
