Wanting the 4.8 would have equated to me having to wait months to get it, that isn't happening with a buyer like me
![]() Not really to concerned about the resale value of the X5, considering a new model coming.

I thought the same way between the 4.6 and the older 4.4(?)....
Then I back to backed the current 4.4 and the 4.8.... 4.8 handled like a go kart/sports car in comparison, nailed the throttle and it has better mid range torque and nails it off the line, and of course, THAT rumble when you start it up is very sexy.... My wife dozed off during the 4.4 test drive as it wasn't that different to the 3.0. She was itching to get behind the wheel when we drove the 4.8 as it certainly got her attention. Oh, and the fact that all options are standard... no contest.

from real experience, having had a 4.4 for 2 years and now having a 4.8 for about three months now, that there is a big difference between the two. i wish i could explain things like tourque and hp - sorry just an enthusiast not an expert.
for me, it was like going from a cruise ship (albeit a very fast and nice cruise ship) to a race car. it's not just the horsepower - something about the 4.8 feels high strung. almost like you have to hold it back. the 4.4 didn't feel as nimble. i get a rush from the 4.8 that i didn't get from the 4.4...pretty cool. |

I just picked up my 4.8 Lemans Blue as well. and all i can say is wow !!
Drove the Cayenne Turbo, RR Supercharge and made a decision to 4.8 and i think is a great combination of sports car feel and suv. Did drive the 4.4 as well but from a looks aspect, the 4.8 looks different. is like the Cayenne S to Turbo. Anyways , l love it so far, but hope the design change will not have a big impact of value and other things. |

I don't think design change will have that great an impact on resale... To compare, I just sold my E46 330i at bluebook, and it's hard to get bluebook on ANY car these days. Well taken care of BMW's in good colors generally retain their resale value regardless of new models coming out.

I am so glad to hear that.
Actually i traded in my 2003 745i black on grey and did not get what i wanted. But again timing was off since all 03 were coing off the lease. So i guess timing is also important. |

I don't think you can honestly compare the 2 if you take all standard options plus the sports car feel of the 4.6/4.8 in to account. I've owned a 4.4i and it was a great X...but the fact of the matter is, my 4.6is a lot closer in performance to my ///M3. I don't think BMW was drunk when these were designated as 4.6is(M) and the 4.8is(M). These are as close to a ///M platform as you'll see without spending the additional 10k that a ///M designation would bring. Don't put stock in the articles...members on this board live a breath this on a regular basis. Sometimes I feel that BMW NA and others should consult this board prior to printing X material........Phil Quote:

I went from 4.4 to 4.8 and was difference for me in handling, engine power, braking power. 4.8 engine is tuned differently. More sporty, louder and different exhaust note. Totally different feeling behind the wheel.
