[X5-UK]

Hi from Scotland (UK),

I'm going to retro-fit my new X5 with rear-headrest screens etc. linked to a boot (USA boot=trunk) mounted DVD changer.

I wondered if anyone knows if the factory fitted MkIV Nav. system has a suitable 'Video Out' to be able to display the navigation map etc. onto additional screens (in this case the retro-fitted headrest mounted kits).

I have also been think about this, because I will mount a roof-monitor when I find a solution on this.

The cable that's feeds you OEM display maybe got 3 wires (red, green, blue) that you can take the source from?
Not sure about this , was only speculating...

That would be cool if your headrest monitors showed the same picture as your NAV screen. Passengers in the back would be able to switch video sources and watch DVD, TV or see the NAV screen. Since mine is usually on satellite radio, it would show the radio station, the artist name and song currently playing! Of course you could also play music videos and get DVD quality sound along with your DSP sound (as I have done with the AUX input connected to my DVD player.)

To accomplish the above, you would have to have the NAV-TV solution with the BMW TV module and then tap into the video going to the NAV screen. Not difficult to do at all. Just read into the wiring diagrams!

Hmmm...I have everything to do this setup except the headrest monitors!

Welcome to x5world. hope you'll stick around for a while.
the television tuner has a video and (mono) audio out. you won't be able to see the navigation on your rear screens, though. you will be able to watch dvds on all screens.

Joll, where did you get your chrome rings?? I have seen them on ebay but was a little hesitant to buy some cheap looking rings...yours look good though. I like the brushed aluminium look and not the shiny chrome.

I got them from AutoTomShop on Ebay

The rings for X5

You have to glue them to the cluster or use M3 tape. I used glue and will never remove them , but you have to be really steady on your hand to glue these rings. Use zip-ties to hold the rings in position while glueing..

I will be converting everything in my mod section to English and Swedish when I release my new site for my X5.
