That has cost you a window.
Remember people contributing to this board, really do know their vehicle spec quite well. Honestly, I am not surprised anymore by stealers' ingnorance.......they are pushing units, and that is all they care about. However on the rare occasion, do you find people who know there stuff.

Cheers,

Really think you should complain and see what they can do for you - they should know their cars better!!

This is what I do to every vehicle I've owned.

Cut an extra key, wrap it in plastic wrap, duct tape it in a convenient spot, like behind a bumper panel. This method has saved me from experiences as described above.

I've used the old magnetic "hide a key" boxes, but they vibrate off, and there is not that much metal to stick them to anymore.

Yes, I got the receipt with me:
Glue kit 83190147369 - $54
Door glass fixed 51348249929 - $62.50

I ordered a spare key also, $171.25 and they want $65 more to ptogram it.
I remember I saw someplace a DIY giude how to reprogram the key, so I told them I would take the key only, no programming needed. If I can't do it, I'll take it to them.
Good thing, I'll have a friend of mine to put the glass on free of charge.

Bruciebonuz, complain to who? They don't give a damn. They are independant dealers, and they have enough business to make money without selling me a freakin' glass for my door.
So, talking to managers will be a waste of time only. That's what I think out of my own experience.
Anyway, my spare key turned out to be $171.25+$54+$62.50, instead of only $171.25

You guys should learn and not make my mistake.

Last week we were at the shore for the start of week vacation. Son asks to have the car key so he can get his boogie board out (I hesitate oh so briefly considering the worst case scenario, which did not include what occurred); key is turned over to him. BTW-bought car three weeks prior, still awaiting a second key from Germany.... son comes back into house 4 minutes later crying. Wife asks, "What is wrong." He says "I locked the keys in the car." I immediately think, Oh my freaking goodness!. Then, wait, BMW Assist will remotely be able to unlock the doors. Now all I have to do is get a phone number for them. No internet access so I make phone calls to friends who give me the number.

I call them and they tell me that they cannot unlock remotely and that the car will have to be towed to nearest dealership and I will sign a waiver for them to force entry into the car. I tell them no way! I call a locksmith who tells me that he cannot get into the car because it is a BMW! He recommends another locksmith. I call this locksmith who tells me that he will come out.

Locksmith arrives, uses a wedge to pry passenger door slightly ajar so he can finagle his tool into the car. Alarm sounds, he hits the unlock key and pulls on the door handle to open car. All in less than 8 minutes! Total charge is $65 (on a Sunday afternoon) and I give him a $100 because I would have been willing to pay twice that!!!! BMW Assist is wrong to guide you to tow the vehicle to a dealership when there other ways to accomplish this. I would really like to hear about the "other" way mentioned previously.

It's amazing the BMW Assist has no remote unlocking. Locked my keys in my Tahoe once; called Onstar and they unlocked my door.

It's on the X5World front page, but I've cut and pasted it in here for you:

Reprogramming Key Fob

To do this procedure you need to have one working key and one key that needs to be programmed. With both keys, get in the car and close all windows and doors. Put working key into the ignition and turn to position 1 (the accessories should turn on). Turn the key back to position 0 and take key out of the ignition. Using the working key, hold down the unlock button, press the Roundel (lock button) 3 times, and release the unlock button. Doors should lock and unlock. With the new key, hold down the unlock button and press the Roundel (lock button) 3 times and let go of the unlock button. Doors should lock and unlock and you're done!!

Alternate procedure if above doesn't work or if you do not have a working remote:

1. Turn key to position 1 five times very quickly
2. Remove key
3. Hold unlock button then press lock button 3 times, release unlock button.
4. If you have another key do the same button pressing within 30 seconds
5. Turn on igntion to finalize
