Question Fan Running

Hey guys... Today my wife came home from lunch today parked in the Garage.. I happen to go out there and here the radiator fan on... It stay on for about 1.5 min... I got the key turned to the on position and the temp gage was normal straight up... So i started the vehicle and turned it off and it stopped.. So I drove the vehicle the rest of the day and it never happened again... Any Ideas... How long would it have stayed on before it cut off.. U think it could run down the battery?

Thanks a lot.. I couldnt wait till i got home to post this to get an idea..

Dunno if this is related, but the fan stays on in my X3 after some very spirited driving.

Seems like your wife was having more fun then you thought .

It is my understanding that the fan stays on after the ignition has been switched off to help dissipate excess heat.

It's normal and should NOT affect the battery life if it runs less than 5 minutes. My Honda Accord did it and had that thing for 10 years without a single battery problem. And now, the X does the same thing.

Yea, especially after "spirited driving" it will run for a couple of minutes. I guess your wife is having fun too, xx3 ?!

Cheers,
