Wow I thought they came as standard. My 2003 X5 diesel came with flaps all round. BUT when I installed the side steps, I had to remove the front flaps because they didnt fit. Still got them on the back though.

It helps...but only a little bit...depending on your speed.

There's a different front flaps if you have side steps (running boards).

Flaps for what??

I have some after market items installed on my X-5, (window deflectors) but I don't think I like the looks of the flaps. Is there a real use for them? Are you on gravel roads etc. Sorry

Of course...makes it much easier to clean the sides of the X and prevent the back bumper from scratches (debris thrown up from the back tires, especially if you have WIDE 285s or 315s rubbers).

Avonside,
I really like the look!
It's one of those things I wanted to do
to mine, but have never gotten around to it...

always wondered why the "cutout" notch on
the rear flap, though?

NEway, it looks Titz, imo.

Had them fitted all round on my 'X' at delivery. Dealer told me they didn't know if they were possible to fit to a 'Sport' with running boards, as no one else had asked up to that point, but they do and did, and should be available from any UK dealer.

They do make a difference, especially after periods of no rain and then heavy showers when the roads in the UK get filthy, and in the winter they keep at least some of the corrosive salt/grit off the precious paint.

mD, I've always hated the looks of that "cutout" notch on the rear flap, but really didn't have much of a choice since I wanted its functionality over its form. My guessed is that it is notched out for the diesel model which have a slightly larger muffler. But I've also seen some from either our friends down under or our fatherland without those"cutout"
