Gauge Cluster

Hello, I have an 04 4.4 X5 and would like to change the gauge\speedo cluster with an 4.8 cluster, does anyone know if there is anything or any pre-cautions I should know about before doing the swap? Are the gauages plug and play? The 4.4 of course has higher mileage than the 4.8. Please let me know, thanks in advance.

it is just plug and play, you'll just need to get the cluster recoded at the dealership

Not many dealers will recode a used cluster. I would check with a few before making a purchase.

Lack of recoding will result in a mileage tamper warning light in the dash.

Also note that you will not have functioning oil temp lights that are a part of the 4.6is/4.8is cluster.

Wait a minute...isn't the redline about 1000 rpm HIGHER on the 4.6/4.8 than on the 4.4? I personally would not be diggin that.

My 4.4 redlines just about 5800rpm, looks like the 4.6 at least goes nearly to 7000rpm.
