Since it's my exhaust that I'm ruining the world with, I'm assuming I'm not the tree hugger.
BTW....Is Iron County in northern WI? My family had a house up in Eagle River, on Catfish or Cranberry Lake (I can never remember )

EKAZ,
Yeah, Iron County is in Northern Wis. We have no emissions testing up here either which is great! I'm almost done building my 427 for my 67 Chevelle SS and it will have NO cats so I hope you environMENTALists will worry about that! But, I am running it with E-85 for the HP advantage and becuase it's 105 octane and cheaper than reg unleaded. And, IT WILL BE LOUD!!! I pick up my new X-5 in 5 days and the first thing I will do is remove the resonator (just because I can and to tick off the environmentalists) Just for the sake of discussion, if I were to remove the cat (for off-road use only of course) would the computer control be able to compensate?

I love engine sounds - just about all types of engine sounds, and for the most part, the louder the better. I especially like 1.75" straight pipes on Harleys, and especially on deceleration after a high wind up. I'm thinking about starting a group where folks advocate louder engine sound from vehicles. Anybody in? Exhaust sound may be noise to some ears, and music to others...

And don't forget, loud pipes save lives!

I imagine without cats you would throw some type of engine light as the O2 sensors fore and aft would read the same level of carbon-monoxide. The '67 should skate anyway, doesn't your state have historic plates? In MD you can run anything you want with historic tags (I ran my 67 Mustang with headers and straight-pipe, which gave new meaning to loud).

E85 offers more power but really poor mpg, and considering you're shoving it in a 427BB, you'll get about 5 miles to the gallon

WagnerX5,
Yeah, with roller cam, 12:1 compression, aluminum heads and about 750 hp without the nitrous I'd be happy to get 5 mpg! I do have the Tremac 5 speed overdrive manual transmission that will keep the rpm's down at highway speed though.

Makes sense with minus the cat the sensor realizing the difference. I'm sure the cat flows pretty free anyway. I do want to replace the restrictive mufflers though. Does anyone know if the 4.4 and the 3.0 use the same mufflers?

I agree that you'll probably throw some codes since the O2 sensors will have the same reading. You may be able to find ways to "fool" the computer.
I also agree that you should just go for the 427BB.

I believe they use different mufflers. Just go with a REMUS system

What NO2 kit do you run and what shot?
