Pix below are the stock airbox with feeder tube (runs from behind the grills into the lower half of the stock airbox) and the newly installed CAI.

Keep in mind that this is for a 4.4i. Someone else here (I think it was KewlX5) did an install on a 3.0i and it looked much different.

Doesn't look like you have the "dangling tube" that others with 4.4's have said they have... strange.
Intake looks good.

A-Ha! I know why I don't have the dangling tube!

The tube is connected to the upper piece which is circled in red below. It is a bit tricky to separate those two pieces. There are two pinch points on the tube that get removed; once pinched, the tube will slide right out.

It seems that some folks aren't pinching and pulling that dangling tube down and out.

It's a different tube we're talking about. The one circles is just the "snorkle" from the radiator shroud. There's another ?vaccum tune that's connected to the airbox on 4.6is models and some 4.4 people say they have this small tube as well.

There have been other message threads discussing what to do with the mysterious tube after a CAI install. Crosvys did a very nice job of documenting the issue.

Do a search for the others - there were solutions identified.

Now I see. The insertion point on my air box was capped. I did not have a downward snorkel tube on my 2005 4.4i. Interesting...

Not really a whole lot of solutions for that hose since no one REALLY know's what it's for.

Looks like the Valvtronic motors don't have that small tube.
