Metallic Black? Help!
I have a metallic black 05, sweet color, but a pain to keep clean. Marks shows up everywhere. I took my car to local self car wash and the brush that they had probably wasn't too soft. I ran my hands throught the brush a couple of times and it was one of the softest ones' I have been to. But after the wash on one of my doors I discovered small scratches, hair line thin. On normal color cars you probably won't see it; but on this black, it shows more then ever. Can anyone recommend a product to remove these scratches? It looks like it can be buffed out, but I don't have a buffer. What is the best way or do I need to seek a professional detailer? And how or where or what do you guys use to clean this color cars? It seems black is so senstive to everything. Even drying towels seems to leave marks! |

my method?
go to a car wash whose primary customers are guys (and girls!) in porsches, other bmws, AMG benzes, ferraris, and the like. if it's good enough for their cars, it's good enough for my X ![]()

Having owned a few black cars, I can say that black is an extremely high maintenence color, instantly showing the smallest amount of dust, dents, or scratches. Black looks great when freshly washed, but in real life, impossible to keep clean. I have further noticed that gold appears to be among the best colors to mask dirt. My Pearl Biege (light gold) X5 with Axxis pads can go several weeks without a wash. But I still envy a shiny black car going down the road

![]() right but there is ONE problem with black. look at a imola red 4.8is and then look at a black one. notice anything? somehow all the curves, contours, and sculpted details are masked by being black. put another way, consider the fact that all test mules are always camouflaged -- and BLACK!! analogy? it's kinda like why i (in probably speaking for many of us!!) prefer girls who wear white and other light colors... esp for pants, swimsuits, lingerie, etc ![]() ![]()

you need to polish out the scratches. not fill them in (bandaid approach). the detailing forum here or autopia.org will have more help for you...
basically you need to do the follow in the order they are presented: wash, clay, polish, wax. tons of choices in product you can use for every step (and you can do inbetween steps of each too - like several different grades of each)... |
