That's the beauty of it - this is your OEM Navigation screen.

thanks, so how much you think will cost to have the nav screen ,backup camera, dvd player with gps or w/out ? my x5 is a 2001 3.0 and i looked in the back and every thing is missing can you tell me in the left side is spose to be the gps and dvd player? or about the right side ?and if i want to take the radio and cd controleer out can i replace all that with nav screen and control everything from the nav screen? or is easier to buy a dvd player that has ipod, dvd player,cd and gps (all in one)? what do you think? thanks

Top install ! Making me think about this now !!

Is there anyway you could make the rear camera come on all the time I think this could be pretty cool at night whe it can be a little difficult to see through the rear tinted windows.

This is definitely possible, the camera would have to be set to a switch to be activated.

My camera and VSM arrived. Thanks for the great thread Wuzin!

Since all I want is rear camera, is the VSM pretty much plug-n-play? By chance do you have any close up pics of the harness you plugged into? The EAS instructions are very generic and the only harness pics are the ones behind the NAV screen (where I won't be)

(for those familiar with the VSM)
I *think* I understand it like this:

VSM goes "inline" with the NAV system (blue connector)
Red wire from harness to 12v switched power
Black wire from harness to ground
Blue Interlock from harness to ground?
Gray "trigger" wire from harness to 12V from backup light circuit (hot when in reverse)

There is a relay in the package.. It appears this is used when the "trigger" from the video source is a ground.. Am I correct in thinking that I won't need this?

Beyond that, it's just a simple matter of connecting the camera itself with it's simple wiring?

I'll take pics of all the connectors and wires that I tap to eliminate these questions next time around.

You pretty much have it figured out - the relay is recommended, but certainly not needed. The ground you are referring to will need ot be grounded or else the VSM will not activate.

Feel free to contact me by phone while you are installing and I'll walk you through the process for wiring and installation.
