Push on the bottom right corner of item #3 (where the painted mirror cover and the mirror housing meet) slightly with your thumb in a downward fashion, then lift the cover off the housing. Take your time as you do not want to break the catches.

I know this has to be too good to be true .... I knew it .... arrgghh

I managed to remove the mirrors off my car but I have been struggling to remove the cover from the mirror ring for the past 2 hours ... tried pulling, tugging, pushing and no luck.

Looking at the diagram from RealOEM, in the exact position as listed within that website, I tried tugging the right had corner to dislodge the clip .... still no luck. Hate to use any screw driver for fear of scratching the painted housing .... any suggestions here????

TIA

OK .... after fighting the housing and numerous tugging from the side, away from the pivot hinge, I was able to pull the rear cover away from the ring.

Next problem, trying to remove the mirror from the motorized based. I know I already have broken one of the taps .... as I heard something crack. Any idea on removing the mirror from the base????

SUCCESS ...

... many thanks to Verbalkint, asawadude, Dblock2151 and special mention to IFlyX5 ... this was finally done. I am surprised that this whole ordeal ONLY took 10 days to address. Of course this included ordering new hardware that I broke along the way.

Attached are some pictures

Another view of folded mirror

View of unfolded mirror

Another view of unfolded mirror w/ special emphasis of EURO anti-blind spot mirror

View of new switches

One note to others who might want to attempt this retro, my X5 did not come with the Sport Option and therefore the trims were matt black whereas the motorized replacement mirror housing were glossy black. Took me some time to transfer the electronics from the new motorized foldable unit to my matt black housing that came along with my X5.

I hope you enjoy these pics. Now towards my next MOD --- PDC --- stay tune to my questions on another thread.

Glad I was able to help you! Everything looks great, and if you don't mind me asking, how much did everything cost? I especially like the Euro Mirror!
