Cross-drilled rotors

What brand do you recommend for the x5 4.4? I'm interested in keeping my stock brakes but upgrading to cross-drilled rotors. Any brands to stay away from? How much for the set is reasonable?

I have had 1 plus years success with a set of standard Brembos on my ride for a year. Get new pads when you do mod. I got mine from Ebay seller though dont remember price or vendor.

Pay the extra for vendor who does silver cadnium plating. Otherwise they will look real dirty and rusty in a year. I made that mistake on my other daily driver first.

I heard there are "cross-drilled" Brembos (maybe not the real thing?) and then there are Brembos with the holes cast right into the rotor. I understand this method of cross-ventilating brakes helped to reduce the possibility of cracking around the holes under heavy braking. I also understand they're a ton more money, but I really haven't taken the time yet to research these. Anyone know more about this?

I got a set of slotted Brembos last year on eBay which had also been cross drilled by the vendor STOPCHEK. He had a few problems with the zink plating which delayed his shipping so he OVER NIGHTED the 4 rotors at no extra cost. A really nice guy to deal with and his prices were great! ($240 for 4 rotors inc. S&H)

I went with the Brembo crossdrilled and slotted and Axxiss pads. I agree, you should up grade the pads as as well, it cuts way down on the dust. Buy the way I am not a fan of Mothers FX Wheel cleaner.

Do a search for STOPCHEK on eBay. I went with Axxis pads all round. Great stopping and NO DUST!
Cheers!

When I get my next set of brakes, I'll be calling Dave Zeckhausen for advice and parts...

Zeckhausen does not sell cross-drilled rotors seperately, only with a brake kit. He has one set of solid rotors that he prefers on his website and that's it.

I suggest going with Stoptech rotors, they even have packages. I'm sure if you called them up, you could get Cross Drilled rotors instead of the Slotted ones.

Quote:
Stage 2 brake upgrade now includes Axxis Deluxe brake pads front and rear, StopTech stainless steel brake Lines front and rear, StopTech slotted or drilled rotors front and rear, and three bottles of Motul RBF600 synthetic brake fluid. FITS STOCK CALIPERS

An excellent choice for the enthusiast whose rotors are nearing the end of their service life, the StopTech Stage 2 kit includes all the components and benefits provided by the Stage 1 kit, but adds value through the addition of direct replacement drilled or slotted rotors at all four corners. For customers interested in attaining an aesthetic edge, we offer cross-drilled rotors that look phenomenal behind that new set of custom wheels as well as preventing glazing of the pads and improving wet and dry braking performance. Alternatively, for the more performance minded enthusiast we recommend slotted rotors that still retain an eye-catching look and provide all the performance gains of a drilled rotor, but are less likely to crack under repeated, severe usage. Regardless of drilling or slotting, all StopTech rotors have a durable black coating on the non-swept areas of the rotor to prevent unsightly corrosion, and quality is assured as the rotors are manufactured to meet or exceed all OE specifications.
