URGENT: Locked my keys in the car

I locked my ONLY set of keys in the trunk today. I called BMW Roadside, and they said I could do is order a new key. I went online and read that I could pop the key cylinder with a flathead screwdriver and hammer. So I tried doing this, and I was able to remove the silver part, butI couldn't get the whole locking cylinder removed. I can't seem to figure out how to open it. The instructions I read were for a 3 series BMW; does the X5 have a different locking mechanism? Can you open the door this way, or did I just mess up my car? I would apperciate any advice you guys can give because the car isn't parked in the best area of town. If anyone in SoCal is willing to help, I'm willing to compensate them.

Check for entry through the hatch. There are a number of posts outlining how to gain entry after locking keys in vehicle within thelast couple of months. Yes, you just messed up your door lock. Get a UK passenger side lock cover (Again on the board) to cover the hole and make it remote open only.

So there is no way to open the door with a flathead screwdriver and and a hammer?

TT,

Here another way to get in as well.

There is a way to get into the car and BMW assist should do it for you. Involves loosening the strip directly above the licence plate that houses the bulbs, activating a lever, and access to the vehicle is through the trunk, alarm does go off, but your key will be inside and alarm can be switched off.

How did the key end up inside?

WOW, yes the X5 has a different lock setup. The 3 series were notorious for popping, however I don't believe it is nearly as 'simple' on the X. Now you have to not only buy a key but also a lock cylinder.....

Just pay BMW to make you a key.

if you haven't destroyed the lock cylinder yet, don't, BMW is sending you a key for that cylinder! (i'm not sure if the remote comes coded to your alarm or if you have to take it to the dealer for that)

The x5 does have a different lock setup? Shoot, I guess all BMWs had the same lock setup, the instruction I read for popping the lock were for a 3 series. How much is a new lock cylinder, and do I even need to get one if I purchase the keyhole delete? This is all very fustrating, because the car isn't in the best neighborhood, and the keys are visible within the trunk along with my golf clubs, tennis rackets, cell phone, wallet, etc.
thanks
