2006 X5 lease prices

I don't understand....if you trade in your car for 16K should this not come of the lease price of 63K??

I leases a 3.0i with sport, premium package, xenons, rear privacy package..totaled being 52250....I wanted a low monthly (I know that it makes no sense, but this is how I like it!) so I paid 16K down and am paying 230 (incl tax) per month on a 24 month lease.....didn't want longer because the new X5 will be coming out and don't like to drive old models when I lease.
Let me know if this is a very bad deal (not that it really matters anymore, just want to know for the next time around).
