I like the concept of run-flat tires. I was checking out a 6 series BMW and they are coming from the factory with run-flats. I haven't heard of an SUV run-flat. I predict that more run-flat tires will be available in the future and spare tires will eventually become obsolete. PS, I love my 19" Pirelli Scorpion's

that used to be true, but not so much anymore. I've left my vette sitting for 2 months over the winter and the GY SC's were fine. Just make sure you keep the pressure up.

btw - run flat tires are HORRIBLE compared to a comparable non-run flat tire. The performance is not very good at all and they're heavier than traditional tires.

gresch, oddly enough I had a friend with a 1995 vette running your same tires, after one month of sitting he had spots...maybe he was just unlucky...or like you said the pressure wasn't perfect.

i had runflats on my CTS-V stock. They were extremely loud in the cockpit. The particular version I had didn't last for anything, but I figured that was more related to the high performance aspect.

Responsiveness with non-runflats I replaced them with was at least as good. I had to buy a wheel to throw in the trunk, and five tires, since the cars with runflats don't come with spares. Well worth it to get rid of the runflats.

The Pirelli's would flat-spot after just 2 or 3 days -- more in the winter than summer. But remember, I'm in South Texas, so it almost NEVER gets below 40 degrees in the dead of winter, and it's 90+ for about 8 months a year.... I really did like the tires, other than this one issue. They did smooth-out after about 15 minuted of driving. I have yet to notice flat-spotting on the Dimaris. I hope the Yokohamas don't do it?!

We have a 2003 Sports as well as the 4.8. The sports ride is very harsh until you get used to it. When we first bought it, I actually looked into swapping the suspension back to standard as the ride was so harsh, and our baby boy would never sleep in his seat.

After looking at all sorts of solutions, I eventually added extra foam padding into his seat and the problem was solved.

Our 3.0 has the Michelin Diamaris tyres on them. We recently had a destroyed tyre (another story) and were considering another brand as the stock was not available for 3 months.

There are plenty of tyres around in the sizes but only a few with the profiles and speed/laod ratings of the OEM. In the end we opted to stay with the Michelins, as the ride is more reliant on the suspension and damping than the tyres.

To my knowledge, no X5 is fitted with run flats yet......

It makes me wonder why the X5 has a run flat reset switch and warning light when there are no run flat tyres available for it. If there is no demand, there may never be a run flat tyre that fits the X5.

You are probably seeing the Tire Pressure Monitoring light/switch which is used to detect the deflation of any kind of pnumatic tire on the vehicle, and requires resetting once a deflated tire has been changed/inflated or if the system simply needs to be calibrated for new tires and different pressures.

There is a data sheet on this system on the X5 World main page
Edit: Okay, its not quite on the main page, and its a whole lot more than a data sheet but here it is http://www.bmwmotorsports.org/BMW_docs/RDW.pdf

did you check your trunk for a spare tire??? If you got one....you can bet your a... that your tires are not run flats!!

My parents in Europe have a 3 series...and they are very concerned not having a sparetire in the trunk and the promise from the dealer that they can drive hundreds of miles on a flat tire without any problems....they don't even have to slow down much...so the dealer said!
