I think you will find the 4.8 to be VERY good in the snow, as long as you fit it with 18" winter wheels and tires. I think there are some articles on this site to that effect.
I would also get the H&R 30mm spacers for the rear when going with this setup. Otherwise it simply looks awful. I have all of the above with very low miles on them, no longer have my 4.6 and will unload them to someone who wants to come pick them up for a more than reasonable price. However you decide to proceed, good luck! |

If I lived closer I would take you up on that offer. Part of my deal is for dealer to include a set of 18" rims and I am going to pick to tires. What are H&R 30mm spacers and how much they cost? Thanks Scott

Being in the fortunate position of owning both a 3.0l X5 Sports and 4.8is X5, I sometimes drive the 3.0 It is very noticeable how superior the 4.8 air suspension ride is in comparison to the other models.
It seems to absorb impacts better when going over eg steep speed humps whereas the Sports seems to jar you with the firmer suspension. Can't speak about the snow as here it has been averaging over 100 degrees recently. Good luck with the buy...... PS. If you don't bow to the pressure tactic, and wait another month, is the world going to end? IMHO take your time and be really happy.

The 4.8is is one of the most amazing cars year round. Not only do you have the utility, but you get the sportiness and the ride height advantage of an suv for the snow. I love my 4.8 and can think of no better SUV. You will also find that the air suspension works wonders. There are turns that I take in my 4.8 which are comparable in speed to what used to be my e46 M3. Go for it!!!

I first purchased a 01 4.4i Sport which I still own. I wanted something to drive on a more daily basis other than my Diablo. I owned a 00 ML 430 and it was ok. When I got the 4.4i Sport, I was in love. When I heard that the 4.8 was comming out, I immediately called my dealer and ordered an 04 Imola Red 4.8is. I have had this vehicle since August. I had to go to NY to pick it up and have loved and enjoyed every mile of this vehicle. As an owner of a 600HP Exotic, the 4.8 gives me more than my fill of speed and fun factor that you will ever need. I actuall find myself driving the 4.8 on days i would normally take out the Bull. I can honestly feel completely comfortable recommending the 4.8is as you all year vehicle that will satisfy your needs of day to day driving as well as your speed fix. Good luck!!!
