how fast is it?

I heard that the 2001 x5 is the fasted 4.4 out there. 15.1 in the quarter mile isn't half bad. what is the Q/M time on the 4.6?

not sure about 1/4 mile times, but my old 2003 X5 4.4 with sport was able to do 0-60 in 6.8 sec

Well the current 2004+ 4.4 gets a 15.1 quarter....so I guess not much has changed.

Are we talking real world times or BMW published times? dragslips.com should have some actual 1/4 mile times posted.

I have a 2001 4.4 Sport and its fast. From a standing start I stayed ahead of my buddy driving a 2006 FX45.
I'm not to sure of times though.

Was well worth trading in my old 1999 4.0 cherokee.

how fast is the 2001 3.0?

I would have to say 16.5

It is pretty identical to my mom's 2006 highlander in terms of speed and my old 01 maxima.

Great question, I have a 4.4i 2001 X5, my buddy did the 0-60 check and we came out with 6.8 also, to be honest it was at 6.789 sec. I'm guessing that the reason why the times are so close together is if you look at the weight on the 01 and any other X5 the 01 weighes a little less then compared to an 04-06... Checked it out with my buddy... So it could be a possibility about the 01 being the fastest 4.4i... Now with the 4.6 or the 4.8, I would have to say the 4.8...but 4.6 not really that far off...

OK I'm confused. My '01 had 282hp, '05 has what 315hp. So why/how is the '01 faster? Torque. (girlie question).

Probably the torque and the gearing, but if you look at the BMW times the X5 from 2001 is no faster then the 4.4 valvetronic....

plus the valvetronic has better MPG, so you have the best of both worlds.

I also have the same sensation. The older 4.4 amazing! The facelift seems to be underpowered. It should be the valvetronic effect, speed progressive and not all the power starting from 0
