Yeah, I noticed my '01 is gone when my '06 is still thinking about it. The Dinan S2 upgrade brings the '01 up to 315hp. I really ought to get some times clocked. The '06 has that startup hesitation and is way too quiet. I see a Dinan upgrade for the '06 in the near future.

I don't quite agree the 01' accelerates faster or has the same 0-60 as the 04' models . All the reviews I read about pre 04' 286hp models said 0-60 in 7.5secs while the 04' 320hp does 0-60 in 7ses. To be exact the times mentioned above are 0-100kmph, which is 62.5mph.

I have heard that 01' owners thought the 04's drive was slower but I have whooped my friend with his 01 4.4 starting off from lights a numbers of times.

I have about two weeks owning a 01 4.4i and I know for a fact that it'll do 0-60 in less than 7.5sec No mods from previous owner that I know of.

So if my 06 4.4 FEELS slower than my 03 4.4, that is only the way it feels? Less torque, but same or more power?

Torque, gearing, power etc. all have a big part in the feel and actual quickness and speed of a car. My 03' 4.4 - sport certainly feels quicker than my friends 06 4.4 sport. We both agree on that, and when we've raced (not really race, just took off quickly from a light) I generally 'beat' him regardless if I'm driving my car or his. I believe the speed differences are nominal at best (I don't know this for sure), but IMO the 03 just 'feels' better to drive.

Just looked up BMW released data.

Torque: 01 : 324 at 3600 rpm. 06 : 324 at 3600 rpm -> same torque.
curb weight: 01: 4795 lbs, 06: 4927 lbs -> 01 is 132 lbs lighter.

It seems 01 has advantage on 0-60 time.

5sp vs 6sp auto. ratios are different and you have to make 1 more shift on the 05.

I have a 05 4.4 and went to the Infineon Raceway quarter mile drag strip. I got to run two times, the first time I got was 15.486 and the second time I got was 15.542. The temprature was 80 degrees. I also thought that my X5 was slow to act, right when the green signals me to go I stomp on the gas but it hesitate for a second then it goes..

It shouldn't matter at the raceway because the time doesn't start counting before the car moves...
