I have a 2001 4.4, the odometer just turned to 65000, at 65067 the service engine soon light came on, does that mean an emmisson test is neede??

I still have 2 green light .

SES light means an error code has tripped in the engine management computer. you need a code reader to see it.

It seems a common cause for the SES light to come on is a loose gas cap. Make sure it is tight. I had that light come on once, right after I got the X5. Dealer checked everything, couldn't find a cause, reset the light, and it never came on again.

That's most likely what it was. When I bought my used '01 last June, the seller made sure to point out how important it was to properly seal the gas tank. He had your same warning light and it frustrated him for a week until he took it to a dealer. I have been very careful about tightening the gas cap and have had no error messages (except for burned out lightbulbs between 50-54K miles)

if it was the gas cap, it should reset itself after a couple of days from what I remember.
