Question about driving in Sport mode

Maybe dumb question, but how the X5 is supposed to be driven in the sport mode (S) the "right" way without hurting the transmission?
I couldn't find this anywhere...

Yes you can drive it in "sport" mode all day if you like....

It's hard to enjoy the sudden downshift and over-revs at stop lights and under 25 mph though......it isn't manual and it doesn't feel like one.

I read somewhere that taking off in S mode frequently will mess up the tranny...is that true?

Sounds like the common problem with the new 6speed auto. Perhaps your X needs a sw upgrade?

Never heard of that happening before, and I don't see why it would.

Already had it checked out dealer said it was normal for S mode at that speed and since I rarely use S mode anyway, I'm fine with it. In normal mode there are rarely any issues for me.

Sport mode is meant for "spirited driving", you can drive it anyway you want. These vehicles are very intelligent. I don't think you can hurt it unless you do something obviously nonsensical. Note: driving in sport mode will hold gears longer before the transmission will upshift and is programmed to downshift more easily -> you will experience reduced fuel economy.

To preface this, I know next-to-nothing about the mechanics of cars.

Once in a while, especially after I've been switching from a high speed to a very low one, when I'm accelerating again my X5 will "kick" - it feels almost as if I'm being rear-ended by another vehicle. There's a thud that comes from the rear when this happens too.

Anyone have any idea what's going on? The reason I post this here is because I think it might have to do with the automatic transmission switching gears.
