First service this Friday
Anyhow, this is my first ever BMW service so I am a little worried that I might be taken advantage of. Like being told by the service department “you should have the $200 BMW fuel flush” and “oh yes, we recommend you change the $300 air regurgitater”. Am I being paranoid or is it common for dealers to up-sell their servicing when you take the car in? What should I have done and is there anything I should avoid?

BMW's matiaence is free for the first 4 years and 50k miles so you have nothing to worry about. Check your owners manual and they should have the INSPECTION I completed at this time.

"Oil service", at that mileage, is the first oil change...it isn't "Inspection 1".
They may do a microfilter change in the HVAC,too. Make sure they reset your ser. lights, so you can chase down Insp 1 in the future. All/everything done by the Stlr wizards on your visit, should be free. GL,mD

Agree with MD that this is an Oil Service, not an Inspection 1.
However, given that the poster is in Australia, I am not sure that the BMWNA service plan applies. If it does, great. If not, recommend you get a price quote in advance for the Oil Service, and the brake fluid flush (assuming you are at 2 years now).

Thanks guys.
I don't think the X5's sold "down under" come with a BMWNA service plan. In fact, I have a feeling that the only thing you don't pay for is the coffee. Hmmm.... on second though, I had better check that too.

Oil service was about $100 on our 3 Series and I just had the 30,000 Inspection 1 on my X5 (3.0) and it was $469 which included an alternator belt and A/C re-charge. Also, my garage does oil changes at 7,500 miles no matter what the car shows. They state the oil filter breaks down at that point and driving it beyond that is bad news!

My bad, 15k is the first oil change and 30k is Inspection 1. It's been a while....
