You can not just change to the 4.8is body kit or bumpers alone. You will have to change the entire front end! This means the hood, grill, headlights, side fenders, bumpers, front spoiler, etc. Not an easy mod for sure. The only people that have done it was after a front end collision and insurance was paying for the damages... otherwise it's just not worth it. Now don't get any ideas and crash the front end of your truck!

I have to disagree! The 4.6is kit consists of suttle alterations that make the X5 look very different.
I did the conversion myself and its my favorite oem mod.In fact, some prefer the 4.6is front bumper to the 4.8´s!Its unfortunate though that the latters front underbumper is not available separately!

each to his own... i think the 4.8 front/rear are better then the 4.6 the 4.8 is more edgier and has a few more edges, indents and flares to make the kit overall more updated/sporty but then again flows well with the car without being to simple

check it out

4.6 vs 4.8

now that i look at it, i guess the rear is the same.. but in my opinion the 4.8 front is much better then 4.6 front

Of course 4.8 look better. And you own one too. OK lets put it this way. 4.8 cost $20K more than 4.6. So it has to look better.

IMHO the ACS front end for pre-facelift X5's is the best of the aftermarket designs and certainly an alternative to the 4.6is front end, if there are any left. I believe these kits have been out of production for at least a year or two.

Price ($900 new) is an issue, but certainly it's a less commonly seen installation.

Yeah! The rear is the same! The flares are also the same and there are a lot of facelift X5 owners that would love it if the 4.6 front underbumper spoiler was available for their cars.....................

Actually...

From the looks of it, it might even be possible to buy the 4.8is front-end and have a good body shop modify the curvy parts on its top to be flat and true to the 4.4i body line - this then skips all the fuss about getting new fenders and eyes and would then be an overall cheaper solution for a whole new front end...now THAT i will consider.
