I just got a set of AE's off eBay off Bavarian_Motorwerks. I am considering doing them on '02 4.6is, built date of 11/01. I am considering "cutting" off the yellow portion of the corners and keeping the "mosaic" portion of the corners, so the new silver bulb is not exposed. I also was going to remove the plastic lens inserts for a clear look. I was considering wiring the AE's into the parking lights, since the parking bulbs in the front are dual filament, so one of the filaments is for blinking and the other one is for the steady on corner lights. This will eliminate the corner lights and will have the AE's instead. I have similar setup on my E39, where I put the clear corner Xenons with AE's. That kit came with special "Y" adapter that took the input from regular corners and split it into turn signal and AE's voltages. Once I figure out how to make that "Y" splitter for the E53, I will be ready to heat gun the lights and get the AE's in. I am located in Central PA and also spend a great deal of time in NoVA, Springfield &
Alexandria area (ZIP 22150 and 22315). My other projects will be installing OEM TV onto the Nav and getting a Bluetooth into the car. TerminatorX5

Smile X5 2003 Ae Help?

Cynicalwry did my 02 M3 and the AE's look awesome (I live in Maryland). I now have an 03 X5 and would love to add the AE's to it but I've heard that is impossible due to a change in the sealant. Anyone out there heard of this or have done an 2003 X5 with AE's that can shed some light on this? My production date on my vehicle is December 2002. Thanks

I will stand corrected - today I pulled the right headlight out and replaced the amber turn signal with silver bulb. The bulb indeed has two filaments but the wiring to the bulb is for single voltage - only two wires are coming in. As a result, wiring the AEs into the turn sigfnal/parking lights is not a feasible option - I can picture the AE's blinking together with the turn signal. I will need to figure out how to do it - try to find a switched hot wire to have the AEs on everytime the engine is running or considering wiring an ugly buttoin into the cabin. I will keep you guys posted.
