hahah.. congrats man

i didn't have to take my bearings out to clean them since i caught my damage very early on. was that part easy? do you have pics of that process? if you don't mind, i would like to see your pics and possibly use them in the diy so we have more perspectives and make it easier for the next guy to try this...

Taking the joint apart was indeed EZ to do. Basically you start off by poping the individual bearings, then rotate the inner(smaller) ring 180 degres and kinda play around with it until it comes off. Should slide off smoothly so dont force it as it'll get stuck. Same thing applies to the bigger(outer) ring. Yeah I didn't really have to go that far but I figured it wouldn't hurt me to do so. I took quite a few shots of the progress so yeah I don't mind sharing them for DIY purposes. Crap I still need to finish up with the X and get that dust shield right If not it'z coming off

as for the dust shield, i would suggest a dremel or similiar cutoff tool and just cut it off...

NP, I'll PM you with the pics once I get home since I have to upload em online. I couldn't par with the dust shield and I ended up hammering it back into place with my 4lb hammer and chisel. Like new now (almost)

Cleaner,

Are you the next one? Lets us know the progress.... I am still sitting duck with the broken booth. Stealer told me to stay and wait for their call. It's amost a month now, still not got it fix yet. I don't know I should fix it myself? My warrant deductible is $100.00 if the stealer fixed them. I guess I will let the stealer do the work, since the part will amost cost up to $100.00 and plus the labor. I don't think it is worth to do it myself.

the boot repair kit is under $30 with discount. part and labor is about $450 by the dealer for just the outside boot. I don't have a quote for both boots repaired nor a full shaft replacement. But labor should be pretty close since its not much different for each of those procedures...

If all goes well this week I'll do them on Saturday. If some other job comes up I might postpone it another week. I am changing all 4 boots, along with the support arm bushings, swaybar links and control arms. The car has almost 70K and we drive it hard, and take it off road on occation so althought nothing is actually broken, It's definatly not at tight as when we rolled it off the showroom floor.

I'll post progress and pictures if I have time, I kinda want to just grind out the job so I am not wrenching all day, but if we start bbqing or someone stops by with a couple beers, things could go longer.

Where do you get your parts? Discount store too? I am having the entire shaft replace will include 2 boots + cvjoints. I called for the part cost for entire shaft, dealer told me it's about $450-$800 plus 2.5 hrs work.

How many hours did it take you guys, hayaku and eck?

1.5 hr to remove it all, 2.5 hours to install it with the war hammer... 4 hours total is my estimate i spent on it...

but you have to take out the time it took for me to change gloves and snap pics.. so i would guess if i just worked on it straight and had all the tools already, it would take me about 2 hours? will be more for less mechanically inclined folks as well as those looking to stop and follow instructions...
