Brake Bite

Wondering if anyone else notices this while driving their X5. When I come to a stop, right at the end of the stop I get a biting feel in the brake pedal and a short but definite sound - it's a short "thunk" like sound that makes you think it's some kind of last bite between the brake pads and the rotor. The same sound and feel occurs when you release the brake pedal. It's less noticeable if you feather the brake pedal at the end of the stop and at start. Brakes work very well and only have about 12K miles on them and they are pads and rotors from BMW.

At one point I had a BMW tech look at it and he asked what I used to wash the car and how often and mentioned something about the brakes glazing??

Any insights and comments welcome.

Thanks

i mean i occasionally feel SOMETHING when i come to a gentle stop, but it seems to me more like a transmission thing: like i think it's shifting into 1st or something.

if it's kinda like a grinding sound, then yeah, i get that every now and then...i think it has something to do with how hot or cold the brake area is. i notice it a lot more when i first start driving the car, but it seems to go away after I drive for a little while. don't know if it's a problem or not since it happened on my previous car too.

Yep - it's more noticeable when driving before brakes have warmed up for sure. Thanks for pointing that out.

I definitely have had the same issue since I bought my 4.6 with 28K miles... It feels like a solid "clunk" when slowing down to stop when the vehicle is cold right at about 5-7 mph. It feels like the entire caliper assembly shifts but the dealer inspected it and said everything is normal. I'm not confident in my dealership & am going to take a closer look to see exactly what's up this weekend. I will let you know.
